Modules overview
In Xperience, a module comprises resources, organised in steps. In a module, we find both:
The structure of the module with its sequencing rules, and the possibility of putting the module into production to obtain a version of the module.
Training resources.
All modules are stored in the module library.
Link between module and training
The module represents the training content of the course: each time a new course is designed (training design tab), a module is automatically created and stored in the module library.
When you want to design a course, you can:
Either work upstream by designing the module, assembling the educational resources and defining the sequencing. When creating the course, all you have to do is look for the previously created module.
Or to design the training content of the training by assembling the training resources as you go along.
Search for a training module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click the View Module button.
The Module tab appears on the screen with the module tree on the left and its card with its information on the right.
Create a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Click on the New module button.
Fill in the information in the worksheet for this module.
Complete the options:
Option enabled: Versioning impacts active sessions:
When activated (it can be done at any time during the life of a module), this option allows, when a new version of the module is put into production, to impact unfinished sessions: a learner already registered for a session will have access to the new version of the module, while keeping their resource history (time spent, Progress, Success/Failure) common to both versions of the module.Option disabled: users registered for future sessions will only benefit from the updates.
Option enabled: Impact new self-service learners:
When activated (it can be done at any time during the life of a module), this option makes it possible, when a new version of the module is put into production, to impact learners who register for a self-service session.Option disabled: users registered for future sessions will only benefit from the updates.
Click the Save button.
Verification
A confirmation message appears on the screen.
A tree appears on the left with the name of the module, and the card appears on the right.

Understand the “step” resource
In a step (as in a module), we find both:
The structure of the step with the sequencing rules
Educational resources
A step cannot be created in the resource library as a module or resource : a step must be created in a module. A step is there to structure the training (e.g. chapter).
Since the step is not shared (it is not found in the module library), it cannot be modified outside of the module to which it belongs. In addition, it provides better readability of the module and the planning will be faster.
Additional Information
Avoid creating (sub)modules within modules
Instead, give priority to the creation of step(s), or even possibly the transformation of modules into a step within the training module (Transform a module into a step button).
Put a module into production
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click the View Module button.
The Module tab appears on the screen with the module tree on the left and its card with its information on the right.
Select the name of the module (the highest element in the tree) from the tree view.
Then click on the Release icon.
A wizard in the form of a popup opens explaining the impact of a release.
Three indicators appear: the latest version put into production, the number of sessions in progress, the number of sessions not started.
There are two options available to check or not: only 1 choice possible among the 2 options :
Resource available on mobile (Yes or No).
Versioning impacts active sessions: Update started and incomplete sessions, in addition to the default ones.
Impact new self-service learners.
A View Sessions button is available to view training sessions that have not started or are in progress and may be impacted by the release.
After checking one of the 2 options, click on Save : after a confirmation request, the production is launched in Asynchronous mode (the processing runs in the background).
The user switches to the Production tab and can view the different versions that have been put into production.
Additional Information
You can only put a module into production if you have the privileges to do so.
The Release icon only appears if :
You've never put your module into production.
You have changed something (resource, sequencing, or tree): in this case, the change appears in bold in the module tree.
During a release, in the event of a problem, a warning message is displayed : we then store the sessions with an error, or not impacted. This detail is available in the Production tab.
Visualize a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click the View Module button.
The Module tab appears on the screen with information about the module and its resource tree.
Click on the Related Courses and Modules tab to see which course or module this module has already been assigned to.
Manage module privileges
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click on the View Module button.
The Module tab appears on the screen with the module tree on the left and its card with its information on the right.
At the bottom of the module sheet appears the publication table that allows you to manage the module's publishing rights: it is called Resource Access Rights :
This table may not be displayed if it was decided during the configuration of the platform. Similarly, the buttons below only appear if it was decided when setting up the platform.
Click on the Domain Privilege button and search for the domain to which you want to give privileges.
Click on the Group Privilege button and search for the group to which you wish to give privileges.
Click on the User Privilege button and search for an individual to whom you wish to give privileges.
Click Delete to delete the selected row and remove the privileges.
For each of the added rows (domain, group, or user), choose the privileges you want to assign :
Viewing privileges, check View : users belonging to this domain, or to this group, will only be able to consult this module and integrate it into a training course. But they will never be able to change it.
Privileges in modification, check Edit : Users belonging to this domain, or group, will be able to modify this module and integrate it into a training course. The author therefore loses his rights and is no longer the only one to manage the module.
Duplicate privileges, check Duplicate : Users belonging to this domain, or to this group, will be able to duplicate this module. The copy will become their property.
Click the Save button.
Additional Information
It is possible to create an area called a "resource centre" in which the educational content is produced and then published to the other domains.
Giving the privilege to modify a module should be avoided, because otherwise all people belonging to that domain, or to this group, will be able to modify the module without the author being notified. And the newly modified module will appear in all the courses where it is, with no way back.
Preview a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click on the preview button at the end of the line : a new window will open and display the module as it will be visible to the learner.
Additional Information
While on the module sheet, you can preview the module by clicking on the Preview button.
Module-level preview (with the Plan Visibility and Action Bar Visibility options on the Settings tab) allows you to visualise the application of sequencing on the module.
The sequencing options used are from the Scorm 2004 standard.
Edit a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click the View Module button.
Edit one or more of the card's information, then click the Save button.

Delete a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
From the Studio menu, select From the submenu The Module Library.
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list and click the Delete button.
Verification
A confirmation message appears on the screen.
Additional Information
A module can only be deleted if the module is not assigned to a training course. Otherwise, a message will appear on the screen prohibiting the deletion of this module.
Duplicate a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
Select the desired search criteria on the search page, then click the Search button.
Select the desired module from the list, then click the Duplicate button.
The module is duplicated with the following properties:
The title of the new module is: module name copy 1, with the number representing the number of copies.
All the characteristics of the module are retained: reference, materials, etc.
The resources in the module are not duplicated. From the duplicated module, the same resources are accessed as in the original module.
The duplicate module will have to be linked to a training course.
Additional Information
We recommend using only one module per course (transforming modules into steps within the training root module) to avoid unwanted changes when creating new versions of the module.
Restore a module
Open Studio > Module library
Procedure
From the Production tab with the list of releases, it is possible to choose a version and revert the design of that selected version by clicking on the Revert Design button.
This version will then become the version released into production and will be offered to future sessions.
